The golf course
for this event is situated between the Pump and Gravity Laterals
beyond the end of Vanderbilt Road, off of Fourth Parallel
Road, Ellensburg. The course is over rolling terrain and will
feature target greens. Ground is too rough to putt. Course
designer since 2004 has been Fred "Hicklaus" Hicks
of England (formerly of Castle Rock).
The
Vanderbilt Country Classic Course Description - Some modifications
may be expected in 2007--
Hole #1 "Orchard Row" plays uphill through the trees
to an open pin.
Hole #2 "Hayfield Hole" plays uphill diagonally
across the hayfield. In 2005 there were water hazards here
as rill irrigation was already on after first cutting came
off.
Hole #3 "Pump Ditch" parallels the irrigation ditch.
A ball in the irrigation ditch is a half stroke penalty. Drop
ball nearest line where ball went out.
Hole #4 "Canyon Crossing" is approximately 150 yards
across the canyon to a target green in the oat field.
Hole #5 "Vanderbilt Classic" (our signature hole)
plays downhill to the green at the bottom of the canyon.
Hole #6 "The Cottonwoods" is a fairly level hole,
shoot for the wide turnout on roadway. Water on your right,
trees and canyon drop-off on the left. Play it straight.
Hole #7 "The Barns" is a wide open, slightly sloped
hole where you should be able to relax a little but try to
use spotters as finding balls in the stubble is tricky.
Hole #8 "The Bins" was up a short draw and over a stack of
fruit bins. Hazards include farm machinery parked around the
landing zone.
Hole #9 "The Ditchbank" is now about an 80 yard
par 3. No longer the longest hole on the course to everyone's
delight. It still parallels the Gravity Ditch so you'll have
to conted with water. The large willow behind the pin is a
magnet. Play smart. Short, safe shots might be best but go
for it if you want that final birdie.
Rules
of Play -
1) Play each
hole from the tee areas.
2) Replace any displaced turf.
3) Winter rules apply on fairways being played.
4) No more than one beer per hole.
5) A half penalty stroke for water shots, take drop nearest
line where ball went out.
6) Five minute limit on search for any one lost ball. If not
found, go where you think it was lost, take a drop and add
one-half penalty stroke.
7) The course is rough, deep and unforgiving. For unplayable
lies, move ball as needed within one foot, no closer to pin.
8) If a coyote steals your ball, don't mess with the coyote.
If a dog steals your ball, play it where it's dropped.
9) If a ball rolls into a badger hole it is a lost ball. Do
not try to recover the ball. Take a drop next to the hole.
There is no penalty stroke.
10) Do not swing a club unless you are absolutely sure no
one is nearby.
11) Use caution when walking and/or driving on the course.
Some areas are very steep, others drop off into deep irrigation
ditches, so navigate with care.
12) Leave wildlife alone. Any critters and birds you see should
not be bothered unless they are gophers or mice in which case
feel free to grab a club and whack 'em.
